  1. SPIE Photonics West Delivers a Successful Return to In-Person Science Events

The World’s largest photonics event has taken place in San Francisco last week, with more than 10,000 registered attendees. This is the first time that the event has been celebrated in person since the pandemic started.

MEETOPTICS has had the pleasure to be there: learning, sharing and meeting new projects and people from the photonics community. This video is our way to share our excitment for being finally back there.

2. Knight Optical Commemorates World Cancer Day Highlighting Photonics Role in Cancer Treatment

Today is World Cancer Day, a time to recall one of the biggest challenges in our days: a disease that is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Companies such as Knight Optical has commemorated this special date highlighting the role that photonics have in cancer treatment.

According to Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute, advanced photonics methods for biomedical applications provide researchers and clinicians in universities and industries an overview of novel tools for cancer diagnostics and treatment. Progress in laser development has revolutionised research approaches in biomedicine, creating new fields in medical diagnostics and treatment,

Innovation in this field can lead to earlier diagnosis and improvements in treatments.

3. Light Weight construction: a key issue for sustainable production

Manuel Reif and his team at Fraunhofer IWS are working on bringing metallic properties to fiber-reinforced plastic composites by means of thermal spraying.

The goal is that functionalized fiber-reinforced plastic composites replace metals.

4. Life, science and photonics

As the last highlight of the week we bring Sven Kiontke’s (CEO at Asphericon) opinion on how optical technologies and life science intersect nowadays.

We encourage our readers to take a look at his insights about both fields. Innovation starts with critical and in-depth thinking!
